Mobility Matters

Mobility Matters

53 million adults are currently living with a disability. Of those 53 million Americans, more than half define their disability a life-altering or severe. Living with a mobility issue can prove to be quite a challenge. A simple trip to the grocery store can be a day-long event. Simply getting in and out of a chair and be a challenge. Today, there are many options to help those with mobility challenges to lead an active lifestyle. However, financial issues coupled with lack access to resources can act as a barrier to these options.

If you or a loved one suffer from mobility challenges, here are some options to consider that will offer you more freedom for going about your day-to-day life.

Renting, or Rent-to-Own: Whether you are recovering from a short-term injury, or have a long-term need, there are options to help cushion the expense typically associated with medical equipment. One of those options is renting or renting to own. Renting allows you to try out a few options without being financially committed by outright buying.

Wheelchair accessible vehicles: Statistics show that 1.9 disabled Americans will never leave their homes. This is largely due in-part to transportation issues. Wheelchair accessible vehicles allow more freedom for those challenged with disabilities and their caregivers.

Ramps: Mobility ramps can make previously inaccessible areas of the home easily accessible to persons with disabilities. Ramps are specifically designed for wheelchairs (both manual and electric) and scooters. Most ramps can be customized to fit individual needs and living situations.

Platform lifts: Without a platform lift a disabled person is often confined a single room or small space. Vertical platform lifts aid those with limited mobility by allowing them access to porches or platforms, and make remove the challenge of navigating difficult pathways.

Chair Lifts: Lift chairs are often used by people with mobility issues, the elderly and others who may have short-term injuries. Chair lifts are designed to lean forward and lift so that occupants will have to apply less pressure to bones, joints in muscles to stand.
